10 Tips to EQUIPPING YOUR CONDOMINIUM UNIT

- How to Make Your Condo an Urban Getaway You’d Love Going Home To
Condominium units are small, that is a given. So the key to comfortable condo-living is to maximize space and lessen clutter. Here are some tips that will help you with optimizing your condo-home setup:

Tip #1: Furniture – Use space saving ones, like a sofa-bed or a bed with a tuck-away mattress underneath for guest or room-mate. You can also buy folding chairs and table/s which you can set aside when you don’t need them.

Tip #2:  Appliances – With the prices of LCD/LED TVs going down, get yourself one of these for your entertainment system. Couple it with a compact, wall mounted audio system and you’re good to go.

If you do your laundry yourself, you can buy the fully automatic ones which are more compact as it only has one tub for both washing and drying.

For air-conditioning, a split-type, ceiling mounted one is the best for the limited space. If you can, get an inverter type from a good brand as it consumes significantly less electricity.

Tip #3:  De-clutter, Organize – Purchase organizers and containers so you may store items you don’t regularly use under the bed or sofa or in a storage shelf. Cabinet organizers are useful. Items that help you make the most of vertical space are the best option.

Tip #4:  Less is More – Figure out how you can have the least amount of furniture as possible.

Tip #5:  Use a Laptop – Having a desktop pc will mean that you will have to set aside some space for it. A laptop is easily stored when not in use, and you can practically use it almost anywhere but the bath. J

Tip #6:  Storage Fixtures – See what space/s in your unit you can use for extra storage. An example is a suspended shelf like the ones above the kitchen counter.

Tip #7: Be Green – Have space for plants. Having some greenery in your living space goes a long way in helping with air quality and making the place feel more warm and “homey”. You can use plastic planters for this which have a catch-basin that prevents excess water from dripping and muddying up your floor. There are also hanging ones for you to save on space. Plants also make a good "sun-screen" if your condo has too much sunlight streaming through the windows. If your unit has a balcony, you can even setup a mini-garden.

Tip #8:  Install a Big Mirror on One Wall – This creates the illusion of space. Making your place seem bigger.

Tip #9:  Consider Light - colored paint for your walls – Paint in darker shades will make it seem gloomier. It will also help you save on lighting costs as you will only need to use fewer and lower powered lighting to illuminate your condo.

Tip #10:   Minimize Your Co-occupants – The limited space will definitely mean that not too many people can live in it comfortably. Very important is that you know you can get along the person/s you plan to live with pretty well. Right?

Hope this helped!

Cheers!

Tony
